Generally, sin is a transgression of a religious law made up by humans. A transgression is to go beyond a limit, to break, or to tear something. To step over the line. Transgression can also be a leap beyond a limit, or out of a place. Sin is, or ought to be, a deliberate disobedience. A transgression to the known will of God as evidenced in His Plan. You have to know it is a sin, and do it anyway. You have to think about it, know about it, and then choose to sin. It should be very difficult to sin accidentally. Sin is that which interferes with God’s Plan. It is necessary at this point to also be clear about two different kinds, or levels, of religious sins. I'll begin by assuming that you belong to some religion. It is likely that your religion has been around for some time, possibly centuries. It is likely that you have had some instruction in the precepts and beliefs of your religion. Further, it is reasonable to think that your religion had some beginning point. A beginning like an event of the Natural World. A Life Transforming Revelation of Mystery to an individual human. That human then Revealed and Preached the good news of his Revelation to share the message. Still further, it is likely that the Revelation included some list of proscriptive rules. Possibly a prohibitive list of guidelines. In other words, the person originally experiencing "The Revelation" had an ax to grind. He was unhappy about something that ticked him off. To solve this problem as he saw it, he created a proper daily behavior list for humans and for their conduct around and toward Deity. Have you ever noticed that when you are angry, or upset about something that you are not always rational? Why have you assumed that such a list was rational for your life? To the extent that you violate any of the written, or unwritten rules of your religion, your religion will consider you to be in a state of "sin". You may even consider yourself to be "unclean". You may feel that you have to go through some set of rigorous "cleansing: rituals and abstinence before you will be "clean: again. Because all of the limitations imposed upon you, written, or unwritten, by your religion were created by humans, I consider them to be very probably the lowest level of religious sin. About as bad in the scheme of things as stepping on a crack in the sidewalk. My brother-in-law detests proselytizers. For years, he has found a way to "punish" them for coming to his door to hand out religious tracts, or to talk to him about religion without prior invitation. He has a straight-faced "act". He begins by being polite, and appears to listen attentively. Then he begins to rant something like this, " Oh. No! You're talking about religion? Why me? Why again? I just went through this last month! Have you no idea of the mortal peril in which you have placed my soul by polluting my ears with this stuff again? You're placing my soul in a state of sin. I will have to undergo rituals of cleansing, again! My minister charges me a mint for this! My skin breaks out from the olive oil. I have to go into seclusion for a week. Do you know what that does to my business? And I have to give up sexual relations with my wife for a fortnight! You think that makes her happy? Please go away!" And he closes the door swiftly, but quietly. It is your religion. It is your duty to know and follow the rules of your religion. I only point out that you have a right under the Gift of God of free will to change your religion. It is your choice. The higher level of religious sin is that behavior which knowingly and deliberately interferes with God's Plan. I am only concerned with this higher level of religious sin. It is our duty and requirement to learn the True Nature of God's Laws in His Plan. It is our duty to follow those laws and rules as best we can. What is sin? Especially if God is not going to be watching over you all of the time and punishing you for your sins? In religious terms, simply, sin is that which interferes with God’s Plan. Because what could be more important than God’s Plan? You must know what sin is, to be able to attempt to avoid it. If you expect, or want, or need a constantly observing and instantly punishing God, then you want something that is artificial, not natural, not created by God. That is not how He works.

His pithy comments and suggestions for a return to a God-centered personal religion will interest everyone.
