Winning the Cultural Crusade

In another article I complained about the moral and intellectual dishonesty of all too many journalists covering the recent military actions in the Middle East. In that article I called those journalists sob-sisters. I accused them of being out of their minds.

The recent kidnapping of two western journalists in Gaza simply underscores the ideas I stated at that time. Their forced conversion to Islam through the threat of execution simply draws the line twice. Islamic fascists do not believe in a free press. Nor do they respect any other religion. Journalists are simply another target for these militants.

Perhaps it is only that these journalists are simpletons, fools, or prime examples of naiveté run amok. Perhaps it is only that they have been purchased, or suborned? Perhaps they are secret converts? What part of their journalistic training suggests to them that the Islamic fascists (terrorists) are “right” and the west is “wrong”?

Why then is the news being reported so slanted in its viewpoint?

There is a difference between those who reluctantly, and forced by military necessity, fire into locations containing non-combatant civilians, and those who force such a situation with malice aforethought and with joyous anticipation of civilian deaths. To the extent that this is not carefully and clearly explained by journalists, then by default, the journalists have joined forces with the terrorists. A country attacked must defend its citizens. There must never be any clouding of responsibility for those that clearly force a military reaction in protection of citizenry as those responsible for collateral civilian deaths and damage. Hezbollah started the latest “war”. There is no such thing as a disproportional response when defending your nation.

Over the last, say twenty years, how many journalists have been kidnapped, tortured, held for ransom, been threatened, and killed by Islamic fascists? In the same period, how many were similarly treated by western governments? I submit that too many journalists are too stupid to count even using their own fingers and toes. Nor do they appear to be interested in the truth.

We have entered again into the throes of a cultural war, based securely in differences in religion. The “sides” are distinct. The term of the conflict can be expected to extend over many decades. We have only begun the sorting out of issues and ideas engaged in that struggle.

I do not believe anyone in the Western nations has before seen this struggle for what it really is, a continuation of the Crusades. The Islamic fascists do not hesitate to couch the struggle today in those terms. They have not been willing to forget wars centuries old. So be it. Whatever tickles your fancy, baby.

One of those issues has to be how un-uniformed combatants retrieved from an active battlefield are to be treated. George W. Bush chose to park them in the American conclave on the island of Cuba as being sufficiently isolated from the world as to be out of sight. That idea simply ignored the realities of modern communications, and the twisted mentalities that actually expect America to stand up for its own artificially elevated ideals. America is no different from any other country. It will do what is necessary for its own interests.

I think that there is only one place for un-uniformed combatants captured on the battlefield. Six feet deep in the earth. Under a newly planted tree if the area’s climate permits. That way they can, at least, be useful. Six feet down, either quietly and in an unmarked grave, or quite publicly, with a cheap painted plywood sign giving details. If publicly, what needs to be added is a component that actively addesses the differences between the religio-cultural beliefs of the volunteers that take up arms. A way has to be found to effectively combat the Islamic fanatics’ insane belief that if he dies in the fight against America, Israel, or “The West”, he ends up in Heaven surrounded by 72 sexually desirable, willing, presumptively female, and athletic virgins desiring a change in sexual status.

That means you have to fight that belief on its own terms and convince the “volunteer” that instead of heaven, he will be so polluted in death that he can never enter Heaven. (Result: no virgins.) How to do this? I have a modest proposal that should work. Collect the un-uniformed dead combatants from the field of battle. Add those that you immediately execute after an appropriate questioning period. Provide a well publicized public mortuary and funerary service in an inviting place like the center of Great Salt Lake, with the following features. Removal of the head from the body. Embalm the body with pig’s blood. Fill body cavities with dog excrement, or diseased pork products. Anoint with more pig blood, or pork fat. Separate burials for head and body, with both turned West. Perhaps under a tree. Perhaps under a stockyard would also be a good location. That should be enough pollution to make a “volunteer” think twice. Al Manar and Al Jazeera would likely run that video tape repeatedly until the message had time to sink in.

Think that’s nasty? Yes. It is. This is not a game of checkers. We are in a war. War is hell. We are in a long term cultural war. The loser dies. I do not want my grandchildren to be on the losing side. We must use every tool, including psychology, that is available to us, to win. The Islamic fascists casually behead their captives alive, with all of the sensitivity of killing chickens, while carefully recording their actions for broadcast on TV. My proposal, while horrific, suggests that the decapitation happen after death. This may be a small point, but I think that it is important.

My proposal plays to our strength and the general western belief that what happens to a body is not particularly important. After all the person is dead. The remainder is fertilizer. We don’t much care for the mutilation of corpses, but in the end that is just a measure of respect for the dead. The Islamist terrorists certainly have no respect for us, or our dead. Witness the condition of the bodies returned to us. I simply propose to return the favor, in spades, and advertise it.

The guy who walks through the valley of the shadow of death and fears no evil is usually the biggest, meanest, nastiest, cut your throat and urinate down the neck, SOB in that valley.

Another issue is our continued dependence on Middle Eastern oil for our energy. The United States must have an energy policy that moves us away from dependence on Arab oil.

We have lots of energy. The world’s largest supply of coal. Huge reserves of oil sands and shale. Thousands of square miles of useless desert that could provide solar energy in several forms. Winds howl across the Great Plains unharnessed by wind farms. Hydroelectric is barely touched. Geothermal is hardly touched at all. Many plant life feed stocks are available for exploitation for fuel energy.

Isn’t it time that we stop paying insane, theocratic fascists money so that they can more easily attack and kill us? Even if that means we have to give up our huge numbers of personal automobiles and change back to public transportation systems? A continuation of our current energy path is not sane.

We need to have the day come when the Arabs want to sell us $10 a barrel oil, and we can say, “No. We don’t want, or need it. At any price. Why don‘t you eat it, or use it as a really effective suppository?”

Obviously, somehow we have lost our Yankee heritage of sharp trading. We need to embargo, limit the exportation, and jack the price of the items which we in the West produce in volume and the Islamic fascists love the most: blue jeans, whiskey, and pornographic movies. Isn’t it obvious that that combination of products is affecting the minds of far too many young Arab men? We need to protect them from temptation.
