Well, well. The NIE has been around since April?

By: George Wallace

This is late September. My calculations say that that report is five months old.

Isn’t THAT interesting. The one thing that still frosts my nether regions was the “holier than thou” attitude of the Republicans as they used $140 million taxpayer dollars to hound President Bill Clinton over nothing, and then they went on the warpath to impeach him over a difference of opinion as to what constitutes sexual behavior. They said Bill lied. If so it was a little white lie, entirely understandable, and mostly designed to try to ease things for himself or members of his family.

Now we know that we have a case, several cases actually, of President George W. Bush lying through his teeth about very substantial matters: connection of Saddam to terrorist groups, WMD’s, necessary troop deployment levels, torture of prisoners, and now this NIE revelation that the President has known for five long months that we are in a losing situation in Iraq. How many U.S. soldiers have died in those five months? Death is a fairly substantial matter, especially to the person doing the dying.

For five months George W. Bush has been telling us that we need to stay the course, things will better, that we were winning the war on terrorism. This it turns out was a bald-faced lie. A real Texas, Pecos Bill traditional style, whopper. This makes Bill Clinton’s attempts at prevarication look like mighty small potatoes, partner. In my book the lives of nearly 25,000 American soldiers and $300 Billion is worth a little thing called impeachment.

Is there no honesty among the Republicans? George W. Bush deserves to be impeached. If all this is about is the preservation of political power, or a stupid attempt to preserve some shadow of respect in history for these six (and ultimately what will probably turn out to be eight ) years of sustained Republican graft, ineptitude, braggadocio, swagger, strut, and corruption, I hope the American people will have the uncommon good sense to boot the bastards out of office in November. Not one major problem facing the American people has been solved, or resolved, or even clearly addressed by George W. Bush and his Republican Congress in five long years.

Not one.

Instead, the NIE makes it clear. The Republican’s plans to democratize the Middle East has really set in motion sixty years of continued terrorist murdering attacks for the Western World. For all these years of the Iraqi insurgency, while getting nearly 2,000 of our troops killed and 20,000 maimed for nothing much more important than boosting the already swollen ego of a mincing Texas toad frog, we have been training future jihadist leaders in Iraq. These new leaders, who will return to their homelands skilled in guerilla tactics in city settings, construction of IED’s, communication networking, agitation propaganda, and recruiting will be new source points of terror.

Iraq was and is a cess pool. Like a cess pool, it stinks. If you land in a cess pool, it only makes the sense of your nose to know that you need to climb out.

Iraq was and is a source of infection. We have lost the opportunity to clean out the corruption, apply disinfectant, suture the wound, and provide antibiotics.

It is too late. The patient will either live or die on its own. It is time to go out in the hall, retreat to the desert, and await the outcome. When the civil fighting is over, we can re-enter the room and do what we can to help with rehabilitation.
