Beauty and music are the balms of life. A balm is a calming sedative that works through the sense of smell. It smells good, and is soothing to the soul. Remember how important the sense of smell is to us. Music is supposed to soothe the savage beast. That is why my farm boss had a radio blaring music in the milk barn. The cows liked rock and roll music even if he didn’t. Some Renaissance music is actually a study aid because it matches our brain waves and enhances study and learning. Isn't it interesting, I wonder how they did that in the 14th to 16th centuries. Beauty of the Earth. Beauty in the sunrise and the sunset. Beauty in a snowfall. Beauty in art. Beauty and music are comforts for healing and comforting body, mind, and soul. Learn to read and play music if you can. It builds mathematical abilities. It is good for your brain. Sing! You don’t have to be good, you just have to be good and loud! Music is deeply ingrained in the human psyche. We sang together in the treetops while we drummed on the branches. Loudness counted first. Harps and pianos came later. Learn to draw, paint, or sculpt. Take art classes. Basic art materials are relatively inexpensive. Like anything you wish to do well, it takes some practice. You can surround yourself with beautiful objects, paintings, photographs, and you can listen to beautiful music. Learn to read about something new. Reading transforms the mind. Reading builds personal independence. Reading encourages the growth of the imagination. Imagination leads to passion. Passion leads to learning. Learning leads to a good life. A good life is a good thing to carry to God.
