What will God do for us? Nothing. Why should He? What does He do for the other species? Why should you expect to get any better answer to your fears and prayers than does a deer fearing a wolf and praying that he isn't seen or smelled? Don’t expect so much of God. God gets to be demanding if He wants to, and He doesn’t seem to do much demanding. On the other hand, God might expect some things of you, so that you might better enable His Plan. Getting God’s attention? How do we get God’s attention? Do nothing. Don't waste your time or effort. You can’t get His attention. He isn’t listening. God didn’t set up this experiment in such a way that He had to monitor it all the time. And there’s no way He’s going to pay attention to a single one of us. Indeed, the only activity or action that humans have ever done that I thought warranted God's attention hasn't so far. Atomic and hydrogen bomb explosions should have been big enough disturbances that I thought they deserved a little of God's attention. It does not appear that even this was enough to get God's attention. We are too different from God for Him to fully understand us. Just some little boys playing with fireworks. As for us, we humans don't understand Him. Suckling young is not a part of the Plan. Don’t expect God to answer your prayers. If God wanted to talk to you, He would have installed some simple, easy to work, personal telephone system between Himself and you. Maybe He issued us all a cell phone and we don’t know it? What you gonna' do, dial up God? What you gonna' say? "Oh! God? Is that You? I have a question." Or, maybe He did issue us a cell phone, but He has blockers, Phone ID, and all the other goodies, so that we don’t waste His time with junk calls. God will pay enough attention to you when you die.
(c) Copyright 2006: George Wallace recently published a book on religion which lashes out at nearly all of the comfortable ideas about God, the trappings of organized religion, and the priesthood. His pithy comments and suggestions for a return to a God-centered personal religion will interest everyone.
