The Sand Under Christianity's Foundation

By: George Wallace

There is no form of supplication that can get God’s attention.

There is no ceremony that can get God’s attention. There is no rite that can get God’s attention. There is no celebration of any size that can get God’s attention. Not by crawling on hands and knees. Not by bloodletting. Not by handling of poisonous snakes. Not by self-torture. Not by self-sacrifice, including self-crucifixion. Not by volunteering for abuse. Not by killing of any animal, nor killing of any human. God simply does not care enough about humans to pay attention to such trivialities.

Stop bending to the will of the leaders of organized religion who tell you that these things will get God’s attention. They are lying to you for their own purposes.

Many of the religious celebrations around the world are simply adaptations by current religions of former more primitive "pagan" religious events. This adoption was a trick. It made it easier to convert the followers of those earlier religions. Convert them to the ones that survive today. In terms of their goals of the time, this was a smart thing to do.

Religious leaders do use their intellect for their own purposes. They are surprisingly resilient if it is to their advantage to do so.

The whole panoply of winter and summer solstice celebrations comes from primitive "pagan" religion. Spring fertility rites come from primitive "pagan" religion. Death and rites to care for the dead comes from primitive "pagan" religion. Rituals of illness comes from primitive "pagan" religion. Our marriage rites come from primitive "pagan" religion. Our celebrations of birth come from primitive "pagan" religion. Even our preparations for battle comes from primitive "pagan" religion. The list is endless. The line where pagan religion ends and our “modern” religion begins is very vague.

Stop pretending to yourself that God does care if you do any of these things. These celebrations, all of them, are for your benefit. Or, much more likely, for some human's benefit. Your disbelief, denial, and pouting will not change God’s behavior. It is better to use the strengths and resources wasted in such exercises to do something useful. Something useful that actually addresses the problem you don’t want to face squarely.

Deal with your problem maturely. Stop kidding yourself, or others, especially your children. Celebrations can be fun. They are opportunities to meet new people. They are opportunities to greet friends. They are opportunities to enjoy food and conversation.

Understand what you see when you see others attempting to “speak to God” by such actions and devices. Understand that these are acts of organized religion. These actions are promoted to seek to control human groups. They do this for the benefit of the religious leaders.

You do not have to be a part of that group that supports these “leaders”. You can choose by these actions to remain hidden for your own purposes. And, you are certainly welcome to participate if you find the celebrations exciting and fun. The only safe hiding place is in plain sight. Secrecy cannot depend only on distance.

His pithy comments and suggestions for a return to a God-centered personal religion will interest everyone.
