Ten Steps to Success in Life

By: George Wallace

What does it take to live a “good life”? What is expected of us as individuals? The answer unfolds from the survival imperative: the requirements are:

(a) clear perception: to see things as they are, to separate the real from unreal.

(b) honest appraisal: no overstatement, or estimation of your own abilities in a situation where you make decisions.

(c) active learning: experience events, learn from them, adapt to change with a new, or different decision; and academic learning of arts and sciences.

(d) exhibit courage: despite the danger, do what you must to survive.

(e) responsible for your choices: own your actions.

What does it take to live the “complete life”? What is expected of us as members of society? All of the above and add the following:

(a) reproduction: as many children as you can afford and support.

(b) teaching learned skills: instruction of your young is the parental responsibility.

(c) appreciate beauty and music: beauty in creation and in man’s creations; music is a communal collaborative effort and related to the next two items.

(d) support of relatives: ownership of favors and obligations, aid to your genetic line.

(e) support your society: the related group, community, and nation.

(c) Copyright 2006: George Wallace recently published a book on religion which lashes out at nearly all of the comfortable ideas about God, the trappings of organized religion, and the priesthood. His pithy comments and suggestions for a return to a God-centered personal religion will interest everyone.
