Schoolboy Bane

By: George Wallace

Do not hide from the hard realities of life. See life as it is. Deal with life. Live with life. Life is not going to go away.

Do not weaken yourself by shielding yourself from unpleasantness. Do not weaken others by shielding them from unpleasantness. This takes away the experiences needed to grow in strength. This takes away the experiences needed to be better prepared for what’s coming next.

Death is a hard reality. Even children need to deal with it. Start the experience with pets. Do not deny to your child an attendance at a funeral. They need to learn about both life and death.

Life is a short term condition. You don’t know how long you will live. Make the best of it. Enjoy life. Enjoy all parts of life. Enjoy friends and companions. Enjoy food, drink, and sex with a willing partner.

Enjoyment is not abuse, although that is one of your choices. Enjoyment of a fine wine stops after the third bottle for the evening when taste buds have become jaded and becomes only drunkenness.

Anyone might die young. It is not an ending that is predetermined. You also might not die young.

You have to be prepared to live a long time, or be prepared to die today.

There is no need to fear death, nor a reason to hasten it. The unifying equality of all life, is death.

Treasure life while you have it.

Death is mysterious. So is life. Death is natural and necessary, but not fair.

Death is random, survival is random.

Survival is a lucky gift, and when you die, you ought to die as if you had been naive. Your life ought to have made some small positive difference for others.

You can measure the value of your own life only by what you have done for others.

Think how shallow are the values of a person who subscribes to the notion that the difference between men and boys is the size of the pile of toys they acquire while alive.

There should be more value to your life than being the bane of schoolboys. A bane because they will be required to memorize your name. One more dusty line in a dusty list of gluttons for material things.

His pithy comments and suggestions for a return to a God-centered personal religion will interest everyone.
