Life on Earth is short. Only your soul is eternal. Only your soul is a part of God. If we are very lucky, we humans might have a life span of a century. This tends to cause us to think short term. This is like a person in their last year of work before retirement. Ten people, ten generations in a row each achieving the age of a hundred would be a thousand years. Ten thousand people in a row achieving this age would equal a million years. Thirty thousand generations, if each generation only lives to be 33 years old, is a million years. Thirty-three was the average life span for men in George Washington’s time. Yet, a million years to God could well be our equivalent of a blink of an eye. The flutter of a shadow of a humming bird’s wing. Thirty thousand generations of humans in a blink of an eye. We don’t know how, or even if, God measures time. Perhaps time does not exist for God. He is eternal, ever lasting, and constant. Now, how much time would God reasonably be expected to spend with a single human life? How much time would God reasonably be expected to pay attention to a single human life? How much time would God reasonably be expected to be concerned with a single human life? How about a single happening within one human’s lifetime? My belief is very, very little. Your soul is eternal and will outlast the sun because it is a part of God. The essence of you is eternal. Begin to think long term. To never question your perception of your relationship with God is sinful. To unquestioningly give up knowing God on a personal basis is sinful. Thus losing the opportunity to use your brain’s reasoning powers to learn for God is sinful. Giving up the opportunity to be free of organized religious repression is sinful. Organized religious repression plays out over thousands of years. You can resist. You can teach your children to resist. You can lead a quiet rebellion. Giving up is sinful. Giving up condemns your seed for generations. These are four of the few real sins for which I think your soul should pay a price. Luckily for you, God will, at the end of your life, decide. Sin is that which interferes with God’s Plan.
(c) Copyright 2006: George Wallace recently published a book on religion which lashes out at nearly all of the comfortable ideas about God, the trappings of organized religion, and the priesthood. His pithy comments and suggestions for a return to a God-centered personal religion will interest everyone.
