Just as was expected and predicted in previous articles, we now have before us the first prime example of a desperation measure by the George W. Bush owned and controlled Krovian Twist & Spin Trust of Dirty Tricks: the “compassionate conservative” President George W. Bush proposing that a permanent state of discrimination be written into our Constitution against a minority of our citizens. The real question is, of course, who will be next? This is #2 of Karl Rove’s Dirty Trinity of Tricks: Call into Question the “family” values of especially Democrats who do not favor your peculiar brand of unification through destruction of everyone who does not agree with you. This particular red herring has been dead for a very long time and smells like it to everyone, except of course to the hard core radical Republican Right wing that even George Bush has been smart enough to have kept starved of red meat. This particular tub thumping campaign ought to smell bad even to this group. Given the number of times that “W” has stumbled while chewing gum, and used this subject before, ought to warn even this group of numb skulls that the fish is rotten and could lead to a very bad case of food poisoning. There is no more telling item that illustrates the lack of new ideas, or the inability of this administration to govern anything more complex than a troop of Boy Scouts, than digging up this country splitting item again. Why do this at this time? Where else can a failing “W” go? The only news out of Iraq is bad, or worse, and “W” has successfully painted himself into a corner there. The onset of a new hurricane season add to the perils of the now and is a constant reminder of George’s Katrina Adventure. His own political party has handed him his head over immigration, with the Houses of Congress creating diametrically different bills that apparently have no chance at reconciliation. Internationally, the United States is now dependent on the good will of other countries to be able to accomplish anything with North Korea and Iran and nuclear proliferation. The only thing that scared that bunch more than a preemptive United States is a helpless United States. His own political party doesn’t trust him any longer. George W. Bush has become the third rail of politics as we move closer toward the mid-term elections. It has been like watching the cockroaches scatter when the light goes on to observe the Republicans up for re-election this year. So why is “W” beating this drum again? He is at the bottom of the barrel. There is no place left to go but to dig around in the scum. He has to appeal to the baser instincts of the swing electorate and his own party members. To get a Constitutional Amendment banning Gay Marriage requires passage of both Houses of Congress as a first step. This proposal cannot get the required votes of the Republicans in the Senate. He knows it is a loser, but it is an opportunity to get the blood flowing again. Anyone’s blood. There are two classic Rove’s Poison Pills yet to try to shove down the throat of the American public: (A.) Call into Question the patriotism of Democrats that don’t kiss George W’s buttocks over _____fill in the blank _____. (B.) Call into Question everything about any Democrat, especially those of color. Label them as “extreme” in their views. Look for them to appear soon. The closer we get to the elections, and the more likely it appears that the Republicans are going down for a really big tumble, the more likely it is for these two “Dirty Tricks” to be called into play again.
(c) Copyright 2006: George Wallace recently published a book on religion which lashes out at nearly all of the comfortable ideas about God, the trappings of organized religion, and the priesthood. His pithy comments and suggestions for a return to a God-centered personal religion will interest everyone.
