Look Out for "Sin" Land Mines

By: George Wallace

I am a retired school teacher. One thing I know well is, that repetition is the final step of learning. There is even a scientific theory of learning through repetition. It can be proved to work. It has been proven to work consistently. You may have noticed that I repeat one idea a lot. "Sin is that which interferes with God’s Plan". I think it is that important. It is so important that I'm going to repeat it some more.

I think a lot of your religious sinning takes place due to individual sloth. I think your religious sinning takes place due to accident. I think your religious sinning takes place due to outside influence. I think your religious sinning takes place due to previous planning and hard work. God doesn't deliberately set out "sin" land mines. Land mines for you step on and set off. You most often do it to yourself. Sin is that which interferes with God’s Plan.

A last idea may be helpful in sorting out some things for you. The Bible was written at a time when theocracy was the general rule. The Bible we know today is only a small part of the library of religious "books" from which the Bible was created. Perhaps a tenth, or even less of the "gospels" were included in the Bible of today.

The Bible was written at a time when theocracy was the general rule. Religion and civil laws were essentially the same. The Roman Emperor Constantine controlled both civil and religious laws in the AD 300 era. Later, civil law began to draw away from religion. It was a very slow process. It was a very painful process.

The divine right of kings paddles around in the mud bath for a long time. Gradually, the separation was almost complete, with the tide running in long cycles.

The Constitution of the United States of America was the first written government document to almost totally separate civil law and religion.

We are still not comfortable with the arrangement. Our Founding fathers were religious men, but they knew intimately just how dangerous it could be for people when religion and government paddle the same canoe.

It is a lesson that many of our current crop of evangelic fundamentalist protestant clerics obviously does not believe. Of course, their agenda includes being able to control your thoughts as well as your deeds. They don’t know God’s Plan. They don’t believe in god’s Plan. The Plan they do believe in, is their simple greed for both political and religious power. Sin is that which interferes with God’s Plan. They’re not afraid. I think many of them do not truly believe in God.

His pithy comments and suggestions for a return to a God-centered personal religion will interest everyone.
