Light Your Own Fire

By: George Wallace

When you give away your personal responsibility for your life then you truly “sin” against God. When you give away your personal responsibility for your religious practice to a religious organization then you truly “sin” against God. When you give away your personal responsibility for your religion to a church then you truly “sin” against God. When you give away your personal responsibility for your religion to a priest, or a minister then you truly “sin” against God. Sin is that which interferes with God’s Plan.

Why? Because this gift of giving away your responsibility for religious practice precludes your ever having original independent new thoughts, ideas, concepts, and actions. This keeps God from eventual new learning. Sin is that which interferes with God’s Plan.

A person must individually, alone, personally seek out the soul, the Godhead within. You must be your own minister. You must connect directly with God. You can seek bliss during your lifetime. You can also choose to wait until God calls you home to make your report.

How you choose to personally seek God is your choice, an exercise of your free will. Everyone has the possibility and the responsibility of achieving a mystical experience, a meeting with God. Sin is that which interferes with God’s Plan.

Organized religion will seek in every way possible to deny to you this opportunity and possibility. Your personal mystical experience is a direct challenge to the the priesthood. You endanger the social status, money, and power of the priesthood. You deny the authority in spiritual matters of the organized hierarchy, the priesthood.

The denial of the validity of your personal contact with God through persecutions, excommunication, and inquisitions of many stripes are sure signs of organized religion seeking to protect its own political power, income, and status.

Ask yourself, why should only a priest offer ritual prayers? Ask yourself, why should only a priest offer sacrifices of incense? Ask yourself, why should only a priest offer to light the candles? Ask yourself, why should only a priest perform other devotions? Ask yourself, why should only a priest expound on “right behavior”. Ask yourself, why should a priest collect a fat share of your money, or goods as offerings?

Take the example of lighting a candle or the fire. Are you capable of striking a match? Flicking a lighter? Using a lens to concentrate the sun’s rays and start a fire? Eleven year old children are taught to use a bow and drill or flint and steel to start a fire in youth camping programs. How is this in any way a religious rite that needs the intercession of a priest? Are we worshiping the fire that warms us and cooks our food, or God? Strike your own match. Light your own fire.

His pithy comments and suggestions for a return to a God-centered personal religion will interest everyone.
