If God “Speaks” To You: Bliss and Terror, a Deer Caught in the Headlights

By: George Wallace

If God “speaks” to you, you will know equal parts of bliss and terror. How could it possibly be any other way?

Think of Moses and his experience with the burning bush.

Think of Job.

Think of a fly confronting the mantis.

Think of the mouse facing the stooping hawk.

Think of yourself as a deer caught in the headlights.

Think of hearing a distinctive voice talking to you. It might be a booming roar. It might be a quiet whisper at your ear.

How many people that God is trying to talk to are thought to be mad?

How many think themselves to be mad, or going mad?

Isn't it curious that many "primitive peoples" believed that the mad were "touched by God"? Isn't it curious that the mad were treated well by primitives?

Isn't it curious that the mad are thrown into prisons by modern scientific thinking societies?

At the very least, organized religion should care for the mad. They already own the monasteries and nunneries and have lots of cells.

You, personally, must seek God.

You cannot ask another to do this for you.

You cannot pay someone else to do this for you.

You cannot allow anyone else to volunteer to do this for you.

It is your personal responsibility to seek God.

This is the only way for you to know God.

To do nothing is “sinful”, but God will not punish you for being a “sinner”.

(c) Copyright 2006: George Wallace recently published a book on religion which lashes out at nearly all of the comfortable ideas about God, the trappings of organized religion, and the priesthood. His pithy comments and suggestions for a return to a God-centered personal religion will interest everyone.
