God is. The soul is. Death is simply a matter of time, place, and circumstance for all of us. Today is a good day to die. We are the tools of, and for, God’s purpose. Like a tool that has lost it’s edge, we can be returned to the workshop for resharpening. We can be cast aside as useless. We can be placed in the scrap barrel for recycling. We can be placed on a storage shelf as inappropriate for the task at hand. If we have become a favorite tool, we might be constantly in use for many tasks. I have a hammer. It is called a single jack. That is, it was intended to be used by one man, with one hand. It was used it to pound on a steel star drill. The holes were drilled into rock for blasting in a mine. That was where I found it in the late 1960’s. Discovered in the desert of Southern California in a mine. I added a new wooden handle. I have had it now for over thirty years. I’ve used it for a myriad of purposes during my time. I hope to pass it on to my son. It could well be useful another fifty years from now. Just so with God with a useful tool like a soul. Why should a soul not be used many times for different purposes? God created the universe. It must serve His purpose, or it would not be here. We are a part of His universe. We have a purpose. Our purpose is to be used by God. Yes, we can even say, abused by God. God only gives you some of His soul when you have passed out of your mother’s body and your independent life-force is quickened by your first breath of air. This is my assumption. It may, or may not be true. I will never know the truth of it. You also will never know the truth of it. I believe that it is possible. God slaps you with some of His soul. It is like the doctor’s slap on your newborn buttocks. God uses a jolt of pain to cause that first gasp of your life giving breath. God slaps you with some of His soul. That is the start of your spiritual life. The rest, between birth and death, is up to you. There is a short period when you are totally dependent on your parents for support and protection. After that, it is up to you. You are God's hammer.
(c) Copyright 2006: George Wallace recently published a book on religion which lashes out at nearly all of the comfortable ideas about God, the trappings of organized religion, and the priesthood. His pithy comments and suggestions for a return to a God-centered personal religion will interest everyone.
