There is no such thing as forgiveness from God for your “sinful” actions. You cannot “confess” and be forgiven by anyone for anything you have done. God will not forgive, or pardon you. These actions are your actions. Sin is that which interferes with God’s Plan. Forgiveness is a human idea. Forgiveness comes from weakness. God is not weak. Forgiveness is a concept of organized religion. It is promoted to help keep the public order. It is promoted to help keep the masses quiet. It is promoted discourage vendetta. It keeps the donations rolling in. The “forgiven sinners” feel even more guilty if they do not add to the collection plate. Vendetta results in actions which resembles taking an express elevator from the penthouse to the basement for society. Revenge, vengeance, is best served cold like a dark, bitter beer. In theory, the system of justice is supposed to stand between the criminal and the victim, or the victim’s survivors, and bring the criminal to justice without creating a cycle of vendetta. The justice system doesn’t work today. This is one reason that decreases people’s trust in government. That is why forgiveness is touted so much by religion and the media today. They seek, together with government, to reduce a tendency for vendetta. God is not weak. God is not going to pardon you for your actions. I see no reason for your victim to do so. You chose your actions. You did them. Don’t be a wimp. Don’t be a crybaby. Be responsible for them. Live your entire life with the knowledge and remembrance of them. If you have anger management problems, solve it yourself. Be an adult. Learn some self-control. You may know and enjoy the song, “Amazing Grace.” I do, and always tear up when I hear it sung. Read about the life of John Newton who wrote the song. Then listen to the song again, and hear the words of a man in torment for his soul. Newton is hopeful about God’s grace. He remembers his actions. God will not forgive, or pardon. God will be disappointed, but God will not punish. God will savor your essence. You will be received by God. That is God’s grace.
(c) Copyright 2006: George Wallace recently published a book on religion which lashes out at nearly all of the comfortable ideas about God, the trappings of organized religion, and the priesthood. His pithy comments and suggestions for a return to a God-centered personal religion will interest everyone.
