Predators do not make a kill with every stalk and charge. The percentage of success is just large enough to keep them alive and healthy. This is God’s Plan: evolution. Survival of the fittest. In the real world, humans are weak. Don't forget that you are the prey. Where's the predator? What does he look like? What is he doing? This is no time for self deception. You must not lie to yourself. This situation calls for literally life saving skills. You must evaluate the situation, the risk-rewards balance, with your life at risk. You must use your own physical skills. You must know the distance to safety. You must know the skills of the predator. There is a lot to consider, but the payoff is large. God wants us to breathe, eat, drink, sleep, live as long as possible by escaping our enemies that want to eat us. He wants us to escape our enemies even if it is only bacteria that desire to eat us and not our next door neighbor. He wants us to have sex on a regular and frequent basis. After that, we can choose to infer some possibilities for the Good Life. We can choose to seek Bliss while we are alive. At the end we die. To be more specific: Part I. What does God expect of us and what does it take to live a “good life”? The answers unfold from the survival imperative: the requirements are: (a) clear perception: to see things as they are, to separate the real from unreal. (b) honest appraisal: no overstatement, or estimation of your own abilities. (c) active learning: experience events, learn from them, adapt to change with a new, or different decision; academic learning of arts and sciences. (d) show courage: despite the danger, do what you must. (e) responsibility for your choices: own your actions. Part II. What does it take to live the “complete life”? What is expected of us as members of society? All of the above and add the following: (a) reproduction: as many children as you can afford and support. (b) teaching learned skills: instruction of your young is the parental responsibility. (c) appreciate beauty and music: beauty in God's creation and in man’s creations; music is a communal collaborative effort and related to the next two items. (d) support of relatives: ownership of favors and obligations, aid to your genetic line. (e) support your society: the related group, community, and nation.
(c) Copyright 2006: George Wallace recently published a book on religion which lashes out at nearly all of the comfortable ideas about God, the trappings of organized religion, and the priesthood. His pithy comments and suggestions for a return to a God-centered personal religion will interest everyone.
