A routine is a magical thing in a performance such as ice skating. In everyday life, it can suck the proverbial soul out of you. If you find yourself in a rut, you need to break the routine. Inspiration is a funny thing because it is unique. Simply put, it is different things to different people. One person might see a story on the news and be incredibly inspired. The person sitting next to them, however, may start clicking the channel looking for something else to watch. Being in a rut is like living in a glass bubble. Life goes on all around you, but you really don’t notice it. Instead, you are blindfolded to your daily repetition and task. You need to wake up and see things. If you do, you will be surprised by everything happening. So, how do you beet the rut that daily life can become. Again, it is in the small things. Stepping beyond your daily routine is the way to do it. Here are a list of little things that anyone can do and will jumpstart you. 1. When you wake up, take inspiration in the fact you have a full day to do something great. 2. Sign up for lessons to learn how to play an instrument. 3. Recognize the value of time. Your fears today will probably mean nothing in a year. 4. Plan out a vacation, even if it will be a bit before you can go. 5. Make a list of 100 things you want to do before you die. Tape it to the mirror in your bathroom. Work towards accomplishing the list each and every day. 6. Kiss your spouse or partner. 7. Go see a comedian. Laughing is good for you. 8. Stop smoking. Today. Now! 9. Take a deep breath, hold it for 10 seconds and slowly breathe out your nose to relax. 10. Go say hello to your neighbor for no reason. 11. By a Nomad Journal and use it. Review your entries every month. 12. Hold a wine tasting party. 13. Go online and find a chat forum for some hobby you like where other enthusiasts can be found. Chat away! 14. Hey, even George Bush became president. If he can, what can you accomplish? 15. Volunteer for anything. 16. Read a poem. 17. Watch the movie “Rudy”, even if you hate sports. 18. Watch the movie “March of the Penguins” even if…well, you hate penguins. 19. Make a list of all the good things about you. Don’t be bashful! As with any list other than one for a cooking recipe, this is a guide not an absolute. The trick is to realize the list represents the idea of moving beyond your routine. You can do anything you want, so long as it is not part of your routine. So, what are you waiting for?
