Listening to the news last night I heard a couple of startling statistics: 20% of white women, and 40% of black women in the US never marry. These numbers carry immense implications about expectations of life, families, children and child care. These numbers carry immense implications about the future of our country. It doesn’t say that these women do not have chidren. I don’t know the numbers for child bearing. I do know, however, that children reared in a single parent family are different from childen from two parent families. First, they are often reared in poverty. Second, their lives are simply poorer because of the lack of a second parent to help in the rearing of the child. Four eyes can see more than two eyes. Four hands can do more than two hands. A pair of parents can take turns in dealing with the problems of caring for a child. One can give the other a chance to be ill, or catch some rest. It is that simple. And, that complex. In the ancient world children were seen as a Blessing of the Gods. Men and women with many children were seen as favored citizens. How the world has turned. Society has turned its face away from children and has instead begun to tax them. Governments tax something they wish to supress. They give tax advantages to something they want more of, so they encourage it. Obviously, in our modern world, children are not seen as very important. This is not a new idea. We’ve known it to be true, in terms of how well we support the public schools. In terms of always keeping the tax code in a punish marriage mode, and in the mode of punishing families with childeren. Married couples generaly pay more of their income in taxes than single taxpayers. The deduction for children and their real costs, medical, dental, and education is a sad joke. Families are no longer important to our government. The tax code says so. Don’t listen to what the politicians say. Look at what they have done to families with laws and taxes. Look at what they have done to encourage businesses to export jobs that pay a family supporting wage. Look at what they have not done to protect families in this country from a precipitous fall to the lowest wages. Look at what they have not done to protect families from competition for jobs by allowing up to 13 million illegal workers to come to this country without sending them back. What has caused this change in attitude? America has changed. It is changing still. American is no longer an agrarian, rural, small family farm, low population density kind of place to live We are now city folk. We live crowded together, elbows jambed into kidneys, you breathe out so I can breathe in, inside vast concrete megolopolises. We have too many people in cities, and not enough people in the country. We are like rats in a population stufy crowded together too tightly. Like the rats, we are turning against ourseves and tearing at each other’s guts with our teeth. We are a writhing mass waiting for a pandemic to thin us out. Today, we have more people than we need. We don’t need any more. We don’t need or want to support the institutuion of marriage. Marriage has as one of its principal aims, the production, rearing, and protection of children. We don’t need the childen any more. We don’t need schools to educate and train them any more. So what difference does it make that more and more women never marry, and that their chilren are raised in single parent families? None, really. How bright and skilled do you have to be to empty the bedpans in a nursing home? How bright and skilled do you have to be to dance in a strip club? How bright and skilled do you have to be to work on a Chinese sweat shop slave labor style assembly line? We’ve got ours. If the little buggers and beggars want something better than what we give them, let them educate themselves and then they can get out there and hustle like we did. Of course America, the land of promise, will no longer be a promising America. We will, just be another second rate, half baked country that used to be great and is now living in the twilight of its former glory. We will have lost our aim, our goals, and our future. That is why we must have change from promising lies. A change from lies, spun lies, and pie in the sky lies to the electorate. The business of America is not business. The business of America is not more and more corporate profits. The business of America is the future. The way we are going there will be no future. Corporations only exist at the pleasure of government. All business, and corporations need a lick of the axe handle alongside their heads to wake them up. Corporations only exist to be able to do work that smaller business structures cannot. That does not change their only real and primary purpose. I once asked my boss, a farmer, why he stayed with farming? I added that given what he was teaching me, that it did not seem to be very profitable. He answered, “Why I never once ever worried about making a profit. Farming is only a way to make a living and properly raise kids.” That corporate purpose is a vehicle that creates jobs for Americans that will support families while doing work that smaller business structures cannot. If corporations do not do that, then they are too large and need to be forced to go on a severe diet, as in cut to pieces. Take off the layers of excessive fat. Maybe they will not be so fat headed. We must restructure our country, our businesses, and our families before it is too late.
