We are in a war that has been ongoing for 58 years. Americans have had many wake up calls during this time and have repeatedly fallen back to sleep after automatically touching the snooze alarm. This self-conditioning process will continue until the United States loses a city to a terrorist attack. I am afraid that it will unfortunately take this kind of suffering and pain to breach the self -induced drugged condition and ostrich reflex of most Americans. Most Americans do not feel in their guts that the Atlantic and the Pacific are no longer the air safety bags protecting average American families from the horrors made personal by war. I do not believe for one minute that George W. Bush had any ability, intention, or foresight to understand the geopolitics of the Middle East. I hope the fact is that George W. Bush at least has the smarts to realize that he has had the luck to fall into a fresh Texas sized cow pie and has a chance to come out smelling like a rose. He has a fresh, new, nasty Middle Eastern war, that he didn’t start, to call U.S. electorate attention away from our war of mistakes in Iraq and 2,558 U.S. military deaths, the current Iraqi civil war, and 25,000 wounded U.S. troops so far. In effect, the United States can very quietly stay out of this new war while while arming, and re-arming our friend and example of democracy, Israel. We can provide the fighting munitions that our friends need and quietly encourage the well trained Israeli military to thoroughly destroy Hezbollah for us. That and that alone will provide a desperately needed lesson for the Middle East. If this means that Lebanon, as a country, is destroyed through the grinding attrition of modern war, so be it. Lebanon is no large loss to the world. Lebanon had decided to accommodate the criminal terrorists inside its borders. This is only the first of many points to keep in mind when discussing the Israeli -Hezbollah conflict. Hezbollah is an internationally recognized terrorist criminal organization and one which has also been welcomed as a part of the government of Lebanon. You cannot make an omelet without cracking a few eggs. The government of Lebanon is complicit in and directly a part of the military buildup of Hezbollah and their use of private homes and businesses as ammo dumps and firing positions for long distance rockets designed solely to kill Israeli civilians. To make wine, you must first mash the grapes . All of this civilian collateral damage and death are a direct result of Hezbollah and the Lebanese government’s cowardice. Both decided that the deliberate the use of civilian shields consisting of women, children, schools, and hospitals to protect terrorist murderers of innocent non-combatants is perfectly appropriate. Making apple sauce requires of violence to apples. The fact is that hundreds of millions of dollars a year have been supplied as a gift to Hezbollah by Iran for many years. It because of this funding that Hezbollah has been able to buy the sympathy and loyalty of that same population of peasant civilian shields. The innocent are not innocent in this case. They are simply a purchased product that was bought with a cradle to grave bowl of pottage. The Faustian choice of the Lebanonese is a voluntary sale of body and soul in a land where making a living requires hard work. It is easy to accept Hezbollah largess. That Hezbollah uses that blood product as body armor, as well as videocast propaganda after normal and expected usage simply tells us that terrorists are not by definition, stupid. There is no real difference between the purchased civilian shield and the terrorist who wears it. The saddest stupidity is watching the Western press corps sucking up this Hezbollah propaganda hook, line, and sinker. Worse is their deliberate and constant attempt to regurgitate this undeserved “sympathy” for the so cruelly treated “victims” of Israeli “aggression”. Have they no shame, no integrity? Can’t they see or report the truth? War is about killing, death, destruction, and bloodshed. War is and always has been about killing, including the killing of women and children. This has always been true. Combat does not take place on a football field within definite limits to violence. War is not does not take place in a boxing ring. Combat does not take place in an antiseptic surgical theater. There are no rules in a firefight. There are only the living and the dead. The Islamists desire and plan to kill the West. They may only force ourselves to change so much that we are like them. If this happens, they win. If we let them kill us, they win. If we commit suicide to please them, they win. The Islamists have not yet shed enough blood to be able to listen to reason. We will know when they truly have had enough of a lesson, as they will lay down their arms and plead for no more war. That is the time to discuss a cease fire. Until then, George, keep Condi home, hopefully doing something useful.
