Donald and I Agree About Sudetenland I suppose that it is inevitable. Anything is theoretically possible. This, is however, one item that I truly never expected. I actually find myself in a single item of agreement with S.O.D. Donald Rumsfeld. In this one item, he is absolutely correct. There is a reasonable case to be made for a parallel between the Appeasement of the Nazis by other governments led by British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain in the late 1930’s, and the “asleep at the switch” attitude and asinine wish fulfillment ideas being promoted by some Western journalists, politicians, and social observers. Appeasement does not work. It has never worked. Appeasement and accommodation is only a delaying tactic that guarantees that the final battle with the aggressors will be larger, costlier, and more bloody than would have been the case if their aggression had been confronted and stopped forthwith. This is just as true at the neighborhood level with your local, homegrown “bullyboy” as it is with nation states and terrorists organizations like Hezbollah and Hamas. Of course, since the appeasers and accommodators will not have to bear the dishonor and shame of a modern Sudetenland, nor will they have to personally pay the butcher’s bill of blood, gore, and life, they can continue to try to stand aside and wail about the “warmongers” not “giving peace a chance.” There can be no peace with terrorists. Terrorism is not the way to achieve redress of grievances. Terrorists are only interested in killing. Killing in the most horrendous fashion with the least risk to themselves, because they have two purposes for their acts. One is to instill fear. The other is to control masses of people through fear. Fear can be generated by massive, bloody killings and by propaganda style advertising of those same acts in the media. At some point the media will hopefully have to recognize that their own personal survival is also at risk. Hopefully the media will come to their collective senses. Perhaps they will actually begin to do their jobs of truthful reporting of the methods and actions of the terrorists. The journalists can start by learning the definition of war given to us by General Sherman, “War is Hell.” Responsible journalists should be able to see and accurately report on the differences between the two sides of a conflict, especially when one “side” is an organization of terrorists, and the other is a recognized government of a nation state with the duty to protect its citizens from kidnapping, torture, and attack by foul murderers. We are in a serious war with the terrorist Islamic fascists. The terrorists have some advantages. These murderers have the financial resources. They have the ability to blend into the larger population. They’ve created a religiously sanctioned message of hate and mindless destruction. They have the energizing maelstrom of zealotry to suck in a constant stream of new converts and volunteers. They have a long timeline. These are very powerful advantages. They are powerful enough to topple governments by force or by political revolution. The nation states of the West must wake up to the seriousness of the threat. The terrorists have the necessary access to lethality. You cannot reason with an insane pathological criminal. It is even less likely that vicious terrorists that enjoy the sight of flowing blood and the murder of infants can be reasoned with, accommodated, or appeased. The terrorists are right about one thing. They will force us to change how we do some things. That does not mean that we cannot use our intelligence to outsmart them and continue with the basic precepts and beliefs that make up our civilization. The biggest danger we face is not the terrorists. The biggest danger we face is among ourselves. The biggest danger we face is the smiling face of a leader that promises to make everything come out right, while saying, “Just Trust Me.”

His pithy comments and suggestions for a return to a God-centered personal religion will interest everyone.
