Delayed Decisions Equal Future Larger Disasters, Part 1

By: George Wallace

The latest weak-kneed, gutless international activity at the U.N. and elsewhere that led to the “cease-fire” between Israel and Hezbollah-Lebanon was a mistake. The problems are not going to go away. Hezbollah is not going to go away. Israel is not going to go away. All that has been accomplished is that the U.N. and other sob-sisters have given Hezbollah the opportunity to re-supply their troop numbers, arms, ammo, and rocket depots.

The Israeli troops and citizens that have been killed, died largely in vain because so much irrational international pressure was put on their government to stop the fighting and withdraw from Lebanon -again. Because of the lies hidden in the promises, the promises made by the international community will not be kept -again.

The U.N. is a waste of money and good hot air. The U.N. is not to be trusted. That is the truth. That is real.

When the fate of nations is involved, delay of necessary and needful resolution of the kind of problems that Israel was in the midst of solving by its invasion of southern Lebanon only results in an even larger and more difficult problem later on. Read that as more deaths and suffering by Israeli citizens when they will again be forced to act to protect themselves from Islamic fanatics.

The next time, Hezbollah will have longer ranger rockets and bigger payloads. Will they be atomic payloads provided by Iran? Will they reach all the cities of Israel? Will they all land time on target? Can Israel wait to find out? Do we dare wait to find out if such rockets are aimed at American soil?

Remember Israel is only the “Little Satan.” The U.S. is the “Greater Satan.” Which is the larger, easier to hit target?

Long term, Israel must convince the other nations of the Middle East that it is gong to continue to exist, and that if it appears that it will not, neither will they. It is a live together, or die together realization. If Iran cannot reconcile itself to this truth, then either Iran, or its leadership must go. If any country cannot reconcile itself to this truth then it, or its leadership must go. I believe that Israel has the wherewithal and the will to make this endgame happen.

The hidden irritant, unresolved issue, in the latest round in the conflict between the existence of Israel and Arab fanatics was the reluctance early on by Israel to throw as many men and as much material into the meat grinder of southern Lebanon as was needed to quickly destroy the military arm of Hezbollah. That was a mistake. I’d be curious to know just what went into that decision. Did the U.S. bring pressure to bear on Israel to limit its response to the murder and kidnapping of its citizens?

For any person or nation to pretend that there ought to be a “limited response” to such behavior is insane. Either that or someone somewhere is smoking too much dope.

The recent conflict is apparently “over.” Over, despite the fact that both sides are still firing weapons in the direction of the other. It must be that getting killed by such a weapon landing now does not “count.” Because these killings do not “count”, the killing is incomplete. The “count” on both sides is not yet big enough for both sides of the issue to have a vested interest in bringing the conflict to a mutually agreed stop.

The current “cease-fire” is a classic example of a non-resolution imposed by outside and non-comprehending parties. It is a classic example of people who truly do not understand that enough violence really does settle things. Incomplete violence does not settle things.

It looks more and more like the recent Hezbollah-Israeli conflict was a set piece deliberately designed to accomplish limited goals. It was tactics. It was planning and discovery time. For those of you who need an example: it was like the childhood game of Red Rover. Sometimes there are little baby steps and sometimes there are giant steps. This latest conflict was a baby step in the multi- level, multi-board chess game of power politics in the Middle East.

The U.S. moved into Afghanistan on Iran’s eastern border and took out a possible problem for Iran, while positioning troops in that country. Then the U.S. moved into Iraq again positioning troops in that country and coincidentally took out the greatest roadblock in the Middle East to Iran’s long range plans for theater domination. The U.S. had positioned its rooks, one on each side of Iran.

Iran decide to move one of its pawns in a response to the U.S. moves which had taken a black knight from the board. The U.S. moves had left major openings and opportunities in strategy for Iran to exploit. Hezbollah’s attack on Israel was only an opening gambit. It was a blood splattering seasoning of a pawn, and a further attempt to refine estimates of both Israeli and U.S. intentions and resolve. A kind of two birds with one stone kind of idea.

In this side game, or side board, the U.N. is simply another pawn on the board. The larger, long term game or goal of Iran is leadership of the international oil cartel, as well as the illogical desire for the destruction of both Israel and the U.S.

At the moment, it looks like Hezbollah was much stronger and dug in deeper than Israel expected. A major question remains about how much real, long term damage Israel was able to inflict on Hezbollah. The damage to Lebanon’s infrastructure was quite large and may be a lesson about harboring criminal terrorists large enough and painful enough to be learned, but that is currently in doubt, as well.

The next question is, just how important to Iran is Hezbollah? If the same high level of funding continues as it has in the past, then Israel is in for some hard days and nights in the future. Has Hezbollah just been tempered by quenching its fire in pools of blood? Is it a more valuable tool? Has it become a casual “expendable”? Only time will tell.

Keep watch in your newspaper, or on TV. Track the “incidents” and the death toll over the next two years. That will be your answer.
