Are you Connected?

By: Tom Haye

Social networking is exploding with new ways to link up to others being added daily. It seems that social networking is absolutely here to stay. The best feature about social networking is that it is all about what people have in common.

So exactly what is social networking? Social networking is the practice of expanding the number of one's business and/or social contacts by making connections through individuals. A great example of social networking is the hugely popular MySpace. Social networking can be an excellent way to partner up for weight loss. The true power of social networking is the unhindered connection of people with similar interests. The premise of social networking is that any friend of my friend is also my friend. The power of social networking is unstoppable.

There are many different ways to use social networking sites. Social networking sites allow users to create personal spaces online with images, blogs, videos and much more. The best thing is the ability to share photos, create blogs, join groups and make new friends all in one place. Sharing photos, hosting or finding events, getting news and joining new conversations are the some of the great ways people are using these sites. Obviously, social networking is not just for kids. I think the greatest thing about social networking is you've linked yourself to so many people around the world.

So if you have not taken the plunge into the world of social networking, you might want to try it and see what the fuss is about. The new friendships that you can make online will enrich your life. Most networking communities are free but they do require that you register with them. Before you start communicating with others, you may need to develop your online profile or profile page, depending on the networking site in question. This is because, internet users are looking to communicate with someone who has the same goals. Just remember that although online communities are a great place to meet other internet users, they can also be dangerous. Only use your first name in your profile, blog or forum posts. In your profile if you are required to list the city and the state that you live in, you may want to think about using a nearby city or town, especially if you live in a small town. Be cautious when making contact with other internet users, especially those that contact you.
